Fuel and Energy Consumption

Rigorous testing helps improve the fuel consumption and energy efficiency of vehicles to reduce operating costs, and meet regulatory and social requirements of a low-carbon economy.

Millbrook offers a wide range of options for measuring fuel consumption and electric vehicle energy efficiency, covering electric driveline testing, engine testing and chassis dynamometer testing. Its facilities cater for all sizes of light and heavy duty vehicles and non-road mobile machinery.

Millbrook measures fuel and energy economy for a broad range of reasons, covering: certification, development, benchmarking, marketing trials, research and industry information.

Fuel Consumption Testing

Millbrook has invested considerably in improving fuel consumption measurement accuracy, as it understands that even a 1% improvement in fuel consumption can bring significant savings to a vehicle operator.

Its facilities allow the accurate and repeatable testing of vehicles under various conditions; at a wide variety of temperatures, over appropriate test cycles and with varied inertias and road load models. The investments provide the confidence to statistically quantify improvements in fuel consumption to less than 0.5% accuracy.

Electric Vehicle Energy Efficiency Testing

With many more hybrid and electric vehicles coming to the market, a significant portion of energy consumption is electricity use. Millbrook has a long history of testing these types of vehicles to understand the energy flows and the impact of aspects such as regenerative braking and HVAC on the electrical energy consumed both from the vehicle battery and the electricity grid.

Millbrook also offers independent additive, lubricant, electric vehicle fluid and fuel testing in the UK.
