Millbrook Announces Former F1 Team Leader as New CEO
February 12th 2014
Millbrook is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr. Alex Burns as its Chief Executive Officer with immediate effect.
Established in 1969, Millbrook is strategically located at the heart of the UK automotive and fuel industries in Bedfordshire. The business owns a 665 acre site offering over 45 miles of on and off road test tracks with a variety of surfaces, features and terrains, as well as extensive test and validation facilities which complement the proving ground. Against a backdrop of increasing emissions legislation and safety regulation, Millbrook has built a strong reputation for assisting blue chip customers with their engineering and development programmes.
Alex’s appointment is a significant step forward in creating a new Millbrook for the future, following Rutland Partners’ purchase of Millbrook from General Motors at the end of last year. Alex brings with him 30 years of experience in high performance engineering in the UK, together with the energy and enthusiasm to take Millbrook forward.
Alex is a Mechanical Engineer and also holds an MBA from Cranfield University. He spent 11 years at the Williams F1 Team as COO and then CEO for the last three years. During this tenure, Alex established Williams Advanced Engineering, which brought F1-inspired low carbon technology to the commercial and passenger vehicle markets, and led the design and manufacture of five hybrid supercar prototypes. Prior to Williams, Alex spent 12 years in various senior roles at Meggitt PLC, and started his career at Westland Helicopters.
I am delighted to be joining Millbrook at such an interesting time. The recent change of ownership represents a great opportunity to develop Millbrook as a world class technology and test centre. I look forward to working with the whole team at Millbrook and providing industry leading services and capabilities to our customers.
Millbrook’s former Chief Executive Mr. Miguel Fragoso has left the company effective January 31 2014 to pursue other interests. Mr Fragoso had been with the Bedfordshire-based engineering and test facility for nearly 5 years. During his tenure Millbrook has diversified its business portfolio and been successfully sold to Rutland Partners late last year.
The Board thanks Mr Fragoso for his contribution to the business over the past years, and wishes him well in his future endeavours
